BlackMen Digital Interview: Catrisa Turner

Thursday 17th, March 2011

BM: Why do you think you should be a BlackMenMagazine Model?

CT: I think I should be a BlackMen Model because I am going after all my  modeling goals with 100% determination. Being published in BlackMenMagazine is one of them. I’m outgoing, beautiful inside and out, I have a great personality and most of all I take my modeling career seriously.

BM: Did you market yourself to fans on

CT: Yes, daily on my Facebook and Twitter accounts.

BM: Were you always this amazingly curvy?

CT: Yes, I woke up one morning and this is what I looked like....Honestly, I ran track, played volleyball in high school. I train in kick boxing as a part of my workout.

Q. What disadvantages do you feel you have as an urban model?

CT: None. I don’t just consider myself an urban model. I booked a commercial print ad campaign with PZI Jeans, worked as a runway/presentation model for Bronner Brothers, and even some acting with BET’s, The Game.

Q. Do you think that having size 40 or more hips inhibits most models?

CT: Only if you let it. We have to diversify our looks as models and again exercise and practice healthy eating habits.

BM: Where do you train if you are acting?

CT: Different workshops throughout Birmingham and Atlanta.

Q. Do you have a commercial head shot?

CT: Yes.

BM: Do you understand that without these things on your resume that your career, if any, might be short?

CT: Yes, I definitely understand and plan to maximize on updating my comp card, shooting with a variety of credible photographers, and updating my images on a regular basis.

BM: Favorite drink?

CT: Crown and Sprite.

BM: Favorite food?

CT: Pizza.

BM: Mood Music?

CT: Usher, Miguel, Tank, Jamie Foxx.

BM: Favorite vacation spot?

CT: Jamaica.

BM: Favorite place to be kissed?

CT: Under the moon…=)

BM: Favorite body part on your man?

CT: Chest.

BM: Favorite place to kiss him?

CT: All over.

BM: How often do you measure yourself?

CT: Once a month

BM: Are you proud of your curves?

CT: Yes, every inch.

BM: What curvaceous celebrity(ies) do you identify with as a role model(s) for success?

Sanaa Latham and Eva Mendes.

BM: Have you invested money into your career?

CT: Yes, I am my business. I invest in things such as professional images, traveling to castings and job bookings, maintaining my hair, nails, toes, and a lengthy wardrobe to meet every job opportunity with the look of a superstar.

BM: Do you or would you work a 9 to 5 until your career took off?

CT: Yes, jobs in this industry come and go. A lot has changed since the recession so I work to provide for myself and my modeling income gets reinvested into my career.

BM: If you had an agent, would you refer all assignments to them as in your agreement, or do you

feel you should take some work without informing them?

CT: I would refer all work to them, one to respect protocol, two to prevent scheduling conflicts, three to make sure clients are researched thoroughly and four to make sure the client does what they say they will do. “Less Stress”.

BM: How do you feel about magazines like Elle and Vogue, do you think they should feature more curvaceous women?

Yes, Curvy women are more realistic. Today’s society has stigmatized what a model should be. All shapes and sizes represent the “real human being.”

BM: How do you plan to change the game?

CT: I’m beautiful, brown, unique and proud to say I am a Southern Girl. My modeling abilities are strong and when I walk into a room I will make sure people know Catrisa is here! I am going to make a statement in the modeling world and be sure people know me as being...The model that accomplished all of her modeling goals because she was determined to make it to the top.
