BlackMen Digital Interview: Karla Prime

Thursday 17th, March 2011

BM: Why do you think you should be a Black Men Model?

KP: I’m young, beautiful, confident and determined. I believe I have that sexy yet classy appeal that most buyers of men’s magazines would appreciate.

BM: Did you market yourself to fans on

KP: Yes, I did, especially through twitter!

BM:Were you always this amazingly curvy?

KP: Well, I’m 19 years old now, so ever since the age of 17, I guess you can say I blossomed into the young woman that I am now.

BM: What disadvantages do you feel you have as an urban model?

KP: I wouldn’t necessarily label myself as only urban, because I’ve shot different styles and aim for variety in my pictures, but some disadvantages I feel I can face in the long run are not being able to book certain jobs because of my size.

BM: Do you think that having size 40 or more hips inhibits most models?

KP: It shouldn’t. Women come in all shapes and sizes, and those women with both beautiful faces and bodies should get the same opportunities as models that are slimmer and just as beautiful.

BM: Where do you train if you are acting?

KP: I’m starting my acting classes in Los Angeles in a couple of weeks.

BM: Do you have a commercial head shot?

KP: Yes, I have a few that I usually submit.

BM: Do you understand that without these things on your resume that you career, if any, might be short?

KP: I do, that’s why I’m beginning to take on more glamour shoots for commercials jobs as well as acting classes.

BM: Favorite drink?

KP: Orange juice.

BM: Favorite food?

KP: Pizza.

BM: Mood Music?

KP: I can listen to Sade all day.

BM: Favorite Vacation Spot?

KP: Anywhere in the Caribbean.

BM: Favorite place to be kissed?

KP: My neck and lips.

BM: Favorite body part on your man?

KP: His arms.

BM: Favorite place to kiss him?

KP: Wherever he wants to be kissed.

BM: How often do you measure yourself?

KP: Every month or so.

BM: Are you proud of your curves?

KP: Yes I am.....very *smiles.*

BM: What curvaceous celebrity do you identify as a role model for success?

KP: I would say the obvious, Kim Kardashian, because we have similar body types and she has come a long way from reality TV to fashion icon to business woman.

BM: Have you invested money into your career?

KP: At the beginning when I was starting off, I would buy the wardrobe for my shoots, but now for the most part everything is provided.

BM: Do you or would you work a 9 to 5 until your career took off?

KP: Probably just a part-time job since I’m focusing on school right now.

BM: If you had an agent, would you refer all assignments to them as in your  agreement, or do you feel you should take some work without informing them?

KP: I have representation now, and I can honestly say, every job I take on they know about. If I’m going to be secretive and do things my way, I might as well not have an agent or management for that matter.

BM: How do you feel about magazines like Elle and Vogue, do you think they should feature more curvaceous women?

KP: Definitely, like I said, beauty comes in all shapes and sizes.

BM: How do you plan to change the game?

KP: By continuing to work hard with the right people. I strive for what I want and won’t stop until it’s mine; I believe that’s the mentality you have to have in this industry.
