The past few years introduced us to a wave of new and enticing reality shows. In 2010, Shaquille O’Neal’s ex-wife, Shaunie, and VH1 brought together a few close friends—who were also ex-wives of notable, professional basketball players or at some point affiliated with the NBA—to doctrine their lives after being involved with pro b-ballers. Every week, Miami residents, Shaunie O’Neal, Evelyn Lozada, Jennifer Williams, Royce Reed, Suzie

Ketcham and a few others

brought the heat, as the ladies

dished out spoons full of spice with “he said, she said” arguments, face-to-face confrontations, along with the occasional cocktail and/or fist thrown in the mix.

Now, on the cusp of their fourth season, “Basketball Wives” is one of the most popular reality shows on television. The last season ended with a cliffhanging feud between Royce (who has her own spread/interview on page 20) and a few of the other ladies, as well as, some other interesting unfinished business. We can only imagine what will go down in the upcoming season.

While we sat tight awaiting the new season of “Basketball Wives,” VH1 served us with a spinoff show in August 2011, titled “Basketball Wives L.A.” The new version of B-Ball Wives introduces us to a new group of wives, girlfriends and exes—who all live on the sunny streets of Los Angeles. The cast is made up of sisters, Gloria and Laura Govan—who both made appearances on the original BW show—Jackie Christie, Kimsha Artest, Imani Showalter, Malaysia Pargo, Draya Howard (who also has her own spread/interview on page 12) and Tanya Williams. At the moment, the show is only on its third episode, and it’s already ripping through the blogosphere due to its controversy and heated fights.n
